About Us

Welcome to The Atlas Journal

The Atlas Journal is a space where knowledge moves freely — beyond the walls of academia, beyond paywalls, and beyond the language barriers that keep essential ideas locked away from the public.

The Atlas Journal journal explores the narratives that shape power, identity, and belonging. Through accessible, thought-provoking essays, we connect research, culture, media, and technology to real-world struggles for visibility, justice, and resistance.

Our Purpose

We live in an era where stories shape reality — and yet, the frameworks for understanding power, identity, and culture are often buried inside academic journals, inaccessible to the very people who would benefit most.

The Atlas Journal was created to break open the vault of academia and make research public, critical, and transformative. Our mission is to:

  • Demystify complex theories so anyone can engage with them
  • Translate academic research into clear, compelling narratives
  • Amplify diverse voices and center marginalized perspectives
  • Create a space where ideas are debated, challenged, and reclaimed

What We Publish

Our essays draw from ethnic studies, media theory, cultural analysis, and social movements to make sense of our rapidly changing world. We focus on themes such as:

  • Media & Algorithms → Who gets seen, who gets erased, and why
  • Culture & Identity → How narratives define belonging and exclusion
  • Narratives of Resistance → How communities fight back and reclaim visibility
  • Global Perspectives → Connecting local struggles to broader systems of power

Every essay is written for curious readers — whether you’re a student, researcher, activist, journalist, or simply someone who wants to better understand the current events in the world.

For Academics & Contributors

The Atlas Journal isn’t just my platform — it’s an open invitation.

We invite scholars, researchers, and practitioners to share their work with a wider audience by adapting their findings into accessible, engaging formats.

Why contribute?

  • Expand the impact of your research beyond the academy
  • Reach readers, journalists, policymakers, and communities directly
  • Be part of a growing network of public intellectuals committed to knowledge as a public good

Submission Guidelines (coming soon) will provide a clear framework for writing for general audiences while maintaining intellectual depth.

Our Vision

The Atlas Journal is more than a publication — it’s a movement.

We envision a future where:

  • Scholarship isn’t locked behind paywalls or gatekeeping
  • Communities shape the stories that define them
  • Knowledge sparks action, not just citations

By mapping the stories shaping power, we aim to build a platform where research meets real life — and where readers, thinkers, and writers come together to create new narratives.

About the Founder

Dr. Samir Monges is a scholar, writer, and public intellectual exploring how stories, algorithms, and cultural narratives shape identity and belonging in the digital age. As the founder and lead writer of The Atlas Journal, his mission is to bridge the gap between scholarship and society, making critical ideas accessible, relevant, and transformative.
